To create the keys, a preferred command is ssh-keygen, which is available with OpenSSH utilities in the Azure Cloud Shell, a macOS or Linux host, and Windows (10 & 11). ssh-keygen asks a series of questions and then writes a private key and a matching public key.
SSH keys are by default kept in the /.ssh directory. If you do not have a /.ssh directory, the ssh-keygen command creates it for you with the correct permissions. An SSH key is created as a resource and stored in Azure for later use.

The following ssh-keygen command generates 4096-bit SSH RSA public and private key files by default in the /.ssh directory. If an existing SSH key pair is found in the current location, those files are overwritten.

Logging into remote systems with SSH implementations is secure by default -- but those connections are secured only in that they use the TLS protocol to encrypt network protocol exchanges. GUI versions of SSH usually include the same functionality as the command-line versions. The best security practice for SSH calls for the user to copy that fingerprint and authenticate it against the public key of the remote server. In practice, this step is often skipped when the user is confident that the remote server is known to be a trusted server. Once the user accepts the authenticity of the remote server, that server and its fingerprint are added to the known hosts file, and subsequent connections can be made directly.
This ad hoc approach can be adequately secure when the user is connecting to a server inside a protected network, but it can be riskier for connecting to other remote servers. This is where ssh-keygen can streamline the exchange of public key authentication.

Brother printers supporting PCL and PostScript are supported. Some models using proprietary drivers (e.g. XL2HB) currently only are supported to a limited extent (e.g. BRMFC9840). Due to a non-standard driver output our page counting ability on certain low end Brother devices is impacted. This includes the HL-5470, HL-5450 and HL-2250.
Canon laser printers and copiers work with PaperCut. The majority of Canon BubbleJet printers are compatible. Canon UFR is an undocumented proprietary language and driver updates have been known to cause issues, however regular PaperCut updates (see below) offer continued support.
The current range of AcuLaser, AL, and EPL mono and color laser printers are fully supported by PaperCut. Please ensure the very latest drivers are installed. The majority of inkjets produced over the last 8 years supporting ESC/P2, ESC/PAGE and ESC/PAGE-COLOR will work. On some older inkjet printer models it may not be possible to detect paper size.

All high-end Minolta-QMS lasers work with PaperCut. Use the PostScript driver option if available. Some low to mid-end Minolta lasers such as the Magicolor 2300 DL (Minolta 2300DL) use a host based GDI driver based on technology from Zenographics. Users running early versions of PaperCut should update to the latest version to ensure full support for this and other Minolta printers.
Océ printers and copiers support PostScript. Some Océ drivers use a proprietary header to set document attributes such as copy count, duplex, etc., which is supported by PaperCut but subject to change by Océ. PaperCut will work with most of the Océ wide-format devices, including custom support for selected proprietary CAD printing output.
PaperCut supports most Samsung printers. Many Samsung printers (e.g. Samsung ML-2010, CLP-510) are supplied with proprietary GDI based drivers (QPDL) with no option for standard PostScript or PCL drivers. PaperCut Software has implemented support for most recent Samsung GDI printers. Model numbers and driver versions are constantly changing. PaperCut users are recommended to upgrade to the latest version and contact PaperCut support if any printers do not account as expected.

The DocuPrint and Phaser Series accommodate PCL and PostScript. Use the PostScript drivers if available. Wide-Format printers such as the Xerox 6204 are supported in the latest versions of PaperCut NG.
The copy-id tool can be dangerous. It can easily accidentally install multiple keys or unintended keys as authorized. The logic for choosing which key to install is convoluted. Extra authorized keys grant permanent access. They can later be used to spread attacks host-to-host, and the more keys there are, the higher the risk. It also violates all regulatory compliance requirements.
I have a simple python script using pexpect running on OSX which lauches ssh-keygen and automates hitting return to generate a key pair and it works fine. I want to do the same thing on windows. To get ssh and ssh-keygen on windows, I installed OpenSSH for Windows which lets ssh run from the cmd prompt as a normal windows program using a portion of the CYGWIN support files. I ported the same script to windows and changed pexpect to winpexpect and used the coresponding winspawn to start the subprocess but it stalls out at the first prompt. 2ff7e9595c
