Downloading Java Version 6 Update 31 for Your 64 Bit PC: Tips and Tricks

Thank you for downloading this release of the JavaTM Platform, Standard Edition Development Kit (JDKTM). The JDK is a development environment for building applications, applets, and components using the Java programming language.

WARNING: These older versions of the JRE and JDK are provided to help developers debug issues in older systems. They are not updated with the latest security patches and are not recommended for use in production.

As with javac, I did not have the OpenJDK version of javaws installed, so my output was simple. However, if you get a list of options, just type in the number of the path to the Oracle javaws command, and press Enter.

It may be that Oracle decided that updating the Sparkle feed for Java 8 Update 31 so that it was no longer providing Java 8 Update 31 build 15 as an update for Java 8 Update 31 build 13 was the best way to help avoid confusion over the update. Unfortunately, there is still no information available about Java 8 Update 31 build 15 and how it differs from Java 8 Update 31 build 13.

Firefox 11 is disabling Java plugin versions that are below version 1.6 Update 31 or between 1.7.0 and 1.7.2 for Windows computers only. Mac OS X computers are not currently affected by this Firefox update.

If there was no Java installed in your computer when you installed Vuze, the Vuze installer (EXE4J) may install Java (Java Runtime environment "JRE") for you. Depending on your operating system and its settings, the installed Java may end up at some non-regular place, and that may cause trouble later when you try to update Java.

Going through the Java Plugin update process from this point is a particularly nasty process (Oracle's fault, not Mozilla's) which doesn't do anything of value. It may even install the next version, which, as I said, doesn't work.

Java 6 update 31 does work with Firefox 10. You may be confusing the Java Console extension (it can be re-enabled Add-ons > Extensions > Java Console > Enable) being disabled with the functioning of Java. Most users do not need Java Console extension or Java Deployment Toolkit plugin enabled. Most users only need Java Platform SE plugin enabled in order to display Java content on web pages.

Java ConsoleUnless you do Java programming/development or debug Java applets on web pages, you do not need Java Console. Java update will install a new Java Console with each update. Removing the Java Console extensions has no effect on the functioning of Java for web browsing. You can see, but not remove, the Java Console extensions in Add-ons > Extensions. Java Console extensions can be safely removed manually by following the instructions in this article:

Unfortunately, when I try to use version 30 or 31 of the plugin in Firefox 10 it DOES NOT work. I get an error in the little container box for the plugin that would otherwise display the time (It's a NIST time display website, " -8/java"). When I reinstall the U29 version, the error does not exist and the time gets displayed correctly. I've gone back and forth a couple of times between the U29 version and the the 30,31 versions. Versions 30 and 31 JUST DO NOT WORK on my computer.

There definitely seems to be something occurring on your system that is interfering with the display on the site -8/java . I have no trouble with that site; I just had to allow NoScript on the site and the running time displays properly. So the problem is not, as you stated at the beginning of your question "It seems that the latest Java Plugin for Firefox 10.0 that works is version U29." You will need to locate what is interfering on your system.

Continuing with our effort to eradicate vulnerable versions of the Java plugin, we are now blocking it for all versions of Mac OS X. We had previously blocked it for old Mac OS X versions because they would not be updated anyway, and we were holding off on updating modern versions because of a bug in the Add-ons Manager that is now fixed in Firefox 12.

All users of Mac OS X 10.6 and above should have already been prompted to install this update. In order to avoid the block, please update immediately using Software Update. If for some reason you need to continue using an old version of the plugin, you can re-enable it in the Add-ons Manager.

I am using MAC running OS X 10.5.2. As your blog indicated, my Java has been blocked. I followed the instructions for Update Software under the apple icon but that last time my Java plug-in to Mozilla was updated was June 2011. Any suggestions on how to resolve except for upgrade Mac OS? Thanks.

I have the same problem. I am using Mac OS X 10.5.8. and this problem is not fixed by using Software Update. In fact, there is no update. Java works fine in Safari and Google Chrome. It also works fine in Firefox if using OS Lion. Will this be resolved any time soon?

As of May 23, 2012, Firefox 12 is blocking Java 6 update 32 across all the workstations on my network. According to Oracle, 6u32 is up-to-date and not in any way vulnerable. Due to compatibility issues, we have absolutely no plans to deploy Java 7 at this time. The helpdesk is _not_ amused.

all of u with mac os 10.5.8 please take a look at the little gems that apple installed on ur computer in the may software update and u will see the root of all ur problems. i do not remember exactly where or what since i am but a novice. all i kno is that im on beta 14 and java works fine now, once i removed two apple commands that essentially disabled, but not removed, java. this is all the info i have.

Thanks so much for posting this. I thought I was going crazy with a mobius loop of Mac > Firefox > Java help pages all pointing to each other!(FireFox 13.0.1 on OSX 10.6.8)Glad I did not have to update OS to solve the issue.

plugin.scan.plid.all is "true"dom.ipc.plugins.java.enabled is "true"Recreated the "pluginreg.dat" file in Firefox profile folderConfirmed that HKLM\software\mozillaplugins does not contain any key referencing JavaConfirmed that "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins" does not exist

See the article Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites and make sure you update Java to the latest version. Look under the Installing or updating Java section of the article for help with that.

In VBA 7, you must update existing Windows API statements (Declare statements) to work with the 64-bit version. Additionally, you must update address pointers and display window handles in user-defined types that are used by these statements. This is discussed in more detail in this article as well as compatibility issues between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions and suggested solutions.

The following example shows VBA code written for 32-bit that needs to be updated. Notice the data types in the legacy code that are updated to use LongPtr because they refer to handles or pointers.

Bad guys frequently attack Java* because it's widely installed and buggy. Java's self-update procedure has historically been poor, resulting in many computers with old versions just ripe for attacking. And, it doesn't help that most computer users think Java is a type of coffee. 2ff7e9595c
